MacBook battery repairs in Edinburgh & across Scotland.

MrFix is an independent, Scottish-based Apple repair specialist, providing MacBook battery replacements for customers in Edinburgh and across Scotland. Visit us at our Edinburgh City Centre or Corstorphine store, send your MacBook to us from anywhere in Scotland or the wider UK, or use our MacBook Collection & Return service across Edinburgh.

Every MacBook battery is a consumable part. Over time and charge cycles, lithium-ion cells gradually lose capacity, which can lead to shorter battery life, unexpected shutdowns, slower performance under load or, in some cases, a battery that begins to swell and push against the trackpad or bottom case.

We replace batteries across the MacBook range, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and older MacBook models, on both Intel and Apple silicon generations. From a battery that drains quickly or shuts down at a random percentage to a “Service Recommended” warning, a MacBook that only works when plugged in, or a swollen battery lifting the trackpad, choose your exact MacBook model to see the available options and repair price.

Your price is confirmed before any work begins. Most walk-in MacBook battery replacements are completed the same day and come with a 12-month warranty.

You can walk into either MrFix Edinburgh store without an appointment. For extra convenience, our MacBook Collection & Return service costs £20 extra, with a MrFix driver collecting your device and returning it after repair within our Edinburgh service area, subject to address availability. If you’re outside Edinburgh, you can use our UK-wide postal repair service.

MrFix has been Scottish-based since 2017. However you choose to get your MacBook to us, we keep the process clear: choose your model, see your battery options and price, and know what you’re paying before your repair begins.

Knowledge

Know your MacBook before choosing a battery repair

Some MacBooks look almost identical — and even share the same screen size — while using completely different batteries.

Take the 13-inch MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. From the outside they can look very similar, but they use different battery packs, and even the same product line changes battery design between years and between Intel and Apple silicon models. On many models the battery cells are glued into the case, while on others the battery is more closely integrated with the top case and keyboard assembly.

That matters because the exact model determines which battery fits your MacBook, how involved the repair is and how much it costs. Choosing by appearance or screen size alone can easily lead to the wrong part or price.

You can find your model in Apple menu → About This Mac, or by checking the model number (starting with “A”) printed on the underside of the MacBook. If your MacBook won’t power on, bring it to MrFix and we’ll identify the model for you before confirming your battery option and exact repair price.

Before you book a MacBook repair

A few simple checks are worth trying before bringing your MacBook to MrFix. Sometimes what looks like a hardware fault has a straightforward cause, and we’d rather help you avoid paying for a repair you don’t actually need.

If your MacBook won’t charge:

Try another charging cable, power adapter and wall socket first, and on MagSafe models check that the connector is clean and seated properly. Dust and debris can also collect inside USB-C ports and prevent the cable from connecting properly. Avoid inserting metal objects or anything that could damage the port. If changing the cable or adapter doesn’t help, MrFix can check whether the problem is the battery, the charging port or another power component.

If your MacBook is slow, freezing or crashing:

Restart the MacBook before assuming something has failed. It’s also worth checking System Settings → General → Storage. Very low available storage can cause poor performance, freezing and other behaviour that can feel like a hardware problem. Freeing some space may be all that’s needed.

If you think your MacBook battery is failing:

Go to System Settings → Battery and check the Battery Health information shown by macOS. A status of “Service Recommended” means the battery is worth having checked. You can also see the cycle count in System Information → Power. How the MacBook behaves matters too. Unexpected shutdowns, rapid battery drain, a MacBook that only works while plugged in, or a trackpad or bottom case that has started to lift can all indicate that the battery needs attention.

If your MacBook trackpad feels stiff or the case is lifting:

Don’t ignore it. A swollen battery can push up against the trackpad, making it hard to click, or cause the bottom case to bulge or not sit flat. Stop using the MacBook, don’t charge it, don’t press on the swollen area and avoid trying to open it yourself. Bring the MacBook to MrFix promptly and we’ll inspect it and confirm whether the battery is the cause.

If your MacBook has been exposed to water or another liquid:

Switch the MacBook off and unplug it straight away, and avoid charging it. Don’t put the MacBook in rice or try to dry it with heat. Liquid can continue affecting the logic board, battery and other internal components even when the MacBook initially appears to work normally, so having it assessed promptly gives you the best chance of identifying the damage before it becomes worse.

Still not sure? Bring the MacBook to MrFix. We’ll check what’s actually wrong and explain the repair and price before any work begins.

Parts and quality options

At MrFix, we don’t believe every customer needs the same replacement battery. Your choice can depend on the MacBook model, how long you plan to keep it, how you use it and your budget. That’s why we offer different battery options and explain what is being fitted, what is included and how much it costs before the repair begins.

Premium battery — our recommended option.

For supported MacBooks, our Premium battery is the option we’re proud to recommend. These batteries are selected for strong capacity, stable performance, accurate battery reporting and safe, reliable charging. Our aim is to give customers who choose an aftermarket part a high-quality option rather than simply fitting the cheapest battery available.

On some MacBook models, the battery is glued firmly into the case or is more closely integrated with the top case and keyboard assembly, which can make the repair more involved. Where that applies, our technicians explain it before the repair so there are no unexpected surprises.

Value Edition — a lower-cost option when budget comes first.

We understand that the Premium battery isn’t the right choice for everyone. You may need your MacBook working urgently, be using it temporarily, preparing to replace it soon or simply need to keep the repair cost as low as possible.

For selected models, our Value Edition provides a more affordable battery replacement. It is a standard, budget-focused repair rather than the option we recommend when the Premium battery is available, but we still source the best quality we reasonably can within this price range.

Importantly, Value Edition does not include MrFix’s Premium installation process. We make the differences clear before installation so you can decide whether the saving or the additional benefits of Premium matter more to you.

Original and genuine options where available.

For customers who want an original part, MrFix can also supply and fit original/OEM battery options for supported MacBook models where available.

The exact part, availability, price and any relevant macOS battery information are explained before you approve the repair.

Premium isn’t only about the battery

With our Premium battery and eligible premium repairs, the standard of installation matters just as much as the replacement part.

To replace a MacBook battery, the bottom case has to be removed and the old cells carefully released from the adhesive holding them in place. MrFix technicians use the correct tools and controlled techniques to remove the old battery safely without puncturing or bending the cells, then clean the housing, fit the new battery with suitable adhesive and reconnect everything with care.

Where applicable, this higher-standard process is also used for our premium screen, keyboard, trackpad and charging port repair work. Our technicians take additional care with preparation, alignment, fastening and finishing because the aim isn’t simply to make the device work again — we want the finished repair to look, feel and perform as close as reasonably possible to a professionally assembled device.

Lithium-ion batteries need to be handled correctly, so we recommend never attempting to remove a swollen or damaged MacBook battery yourself. What our Premium service does provide is the right equipment, quality parts, careful handling and technician care required to achieve the best practical standard possible for an independent repair.

Premium battery, Value Edition or an original option where available — you’ll know what you’re choosing, what’s included and what you’re paying before MrFix fits anything.

Your data during a MacBook repair

Your privacy matters. MrFix does not wipe your MacBook as part of a standard battery, screen or other hardware repair, and your login password is not normally required for straightforward repairs.

We still recommend making a current backup before any repair. A MacBook that is already damaged or experiencing a hardware fault can sometimes deteriorate further, so keeping important files, photos and other data backed up is always sensible.

For liquid-damaged, no-power or severely damaged MacBooks, data recovery cannot be guaranteed. We’ll explain what can realistically be attempted rather than promise a recovery before the condition of the device is known.

Knowledge

After your MacBook repair

Before your MacBook is returned, MrFix tests the repair and relevant device functions. Depending on the work carried out, this can include the display, keyboard, trackpad, charging, ports, speakers, microphones, camera and Touch ID where applicable.

For a battery replacement, we check charging with a known-good power adapter, confirm the battery is recognised correctly, review the battery health and cycle count information shown by macOS and make sure the MacBook runs normally on battery power before handover. We’ll also tell you what was fitted and anything relevant you should know about the repair.

A replacement battery doesn’t need a special settling-in period. Once the repair has been completed and tested, you can charge and use your MacBook normally. The battery percentage may take a few charge cycles to become fully accurate.

Depending on the MacBook model and the battery you selected, macOS may display a battery service message or different battery information in Settings. Where this is expected, we’ll explain it when you choose your repair option rather than leaving you to discover it afterwards.

If something doesn’t seem right after your repair, contact MrFix as soon as you notice it. We’d rather inspect the device promptly and determine whether the issue relates to the fitted part, the repair itself or a separate fault.

Common questions about MacBook battery repairs

Here are answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

How do I know if my MacBook battery needs replacing?

Common signs include battery life that is noticeably shorter than it used to be, unexpected shutdowns, a MacBook that only works while plugged in, or a “Service Recommended” status in System Settings → Battery. A trackpad that has become stiff or a bottom case that no longer sits flat can indicate a swollen battery, which should be checked promptly. If you’re unsure, bring your MacBook to MrFix and we’ll check the battery before recommending a repair.

Will my MacBook charge and hold charge normally after a battery replacement?

Yes — the aim is to restore normal charging and dependable battery life. After the repair, we test charging with a known-good power adapter and check that the MacBook runs correctly on battery power before handover. If the fault turns out to involve the charging port, power circuitry or logic board rather than the battery, we’ll explain this before the repair wherever it can be identified.

Can MrFix repair a MacBook that is locked to someone else’s Apple Account?

A hardware repair may still be possible, but MrFix cannot remove Apple’s Activation Lock. Activation Lock is an Apple security feature and requires the appropriate Apple Account credentials or Apple’s supported account recovery process. A hardware repair does not bypass it.

Can MrFix repair a MacBook another repair shop has already worked on?

In many cases, yes. Tell us about any previous repairs or replacement parts when you bring or send the MacBook to us. Previous work can affect diagnosis, part compatibility and the condition inside the device, so knowing what’s already been done helps our technicians assess it properly.

Will I lose my data during a repair?

MrFix does not wipe your MacBook as part of a standard battery, screen or other hardware repair, and your login password is not normally required for straightforward repairs. However, we still recommend making a current backup before any repair, as unexpected issues can sometimes occur.

Preparing your MacBook for repair

A little preparation can help your repair go more smoothly. Here are a few simple steps to take before you bring or send your MacBook to MrFix.

Back up your data

We always recommend making a current backup using Time Machine or iCloud before any repair.

Know your login password

Your login password is not normally required for straightforward repairs, but it may be needed to fully test certain functions such as Touch ID, battery health information, the camera or some settings.

Sign out (where possible)

If you can, sign out of your Apple Account and turn off Find My Mac. This isn’t always necessary, but it can help with some types of repair and testing.

Tell us about any previous repairs

Let us know if your MacBook has had any previous repairs or if you’re aware of any existing issues.

Bring your charger

For a battery or charging issue, it can be helpful to bring your power adapter and charging cable so we can test them with your MacBook.

What MacBook repairs does MrFix offer?

MrFix repairs the most common MacBook faults, including battery replacement, screen replacement, keyboard and trackpad issues, charging problems, liquid damage and other supported hardware faults.

For MacBook battery repairs, choose your exact model to see the available options and price. Most walk-in MacBook battery replacements are completed the same day, and completed repairs come with our 12-month warranty, subject to the warranty terms.

How do I choose the right MacBook model?

Start by choosing your MacBook from the model cards above. Depending on the year, that might be a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro or an older MacBook model.

Not sure which one you have? Go to Apple menu → About This Mac, or check the model number (starting with “A”) on the underside of the MacBook. If the MacBook won’t power on, bring it to MrFix and we’ll identify it before confirming your battery options and price.

Do you repair older MacBooks?

Yes. We repair a wide range of MacBook models, from older Intel MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models through to recent Apple silicon generations. Parts availability varies by model. For very old models we’ll confirm parts availability before starting work.

How long does a MacBook battery repair take?

Most MacBook battery replacements are completed the same day.

Models where the battery is integrated with the top case, more complicated damage or additional faults may require longer. If we find something that changes the expected repair or timescale, we’ll explain it before proceeding.

Can I visit without an appointment?

Yes. No appointment is required for walk-in repairs. You can bring your MacBook to either our Edinburgh City Centre or Corstorphine store during opening hours.

We’ll check the device, confirm the appropriate repair and price, and get your approval before work begins.

Can you collect my MacBook and bring it back after the repair?

Yes. For many Edinburgh customers, our MacBook Collection & Return service can be the smartest and easiest way to get a battery replaced without making a trip to the shop.

For an additional £20, a MrFix driver can collect your MacBook from your address, bring it to us for repair and return it afterwards. The service covers most of Edinburgh, including Corstorphine, subject to address availability.

Will my data be safe during the repair?

MrFix does not wipe your MacBook as part of a standard hardware repair, and your login password is not normally required for straightforward battery or screen repairs.

We still recommend making a current backup before any repair. For severely damaged, liquid-damaged or no-power devices, data recovery cannot be guaranteed.

Do you offer nationwide MacBook repair by courier?

Yes. If you’re outside Edinburgh, you can use our UK-wide postal repair service.

Send your MacBook to MrFix and we’ll assess the device and confirm the repair and price before proceeding. This means customers across Scotland and the rest of the UK can use MrFix without visiting one of our Edinburgh stores.

What warranty comes with a MacBook repair?

Completed MrFix repairs come with a 12-month warranty on the fitted part and our workmanship.

It covers faults relating to the replacement part or work carried out by MrFix. It does not cover new accidental or physical damage, misuse or unrelated faults that develop afterwards. Liquid-damage repairs are excluded from the standard 12-month warranty because corrosion can continue after repair.

Can I choose which replacement MacBook battery is fitted?

Yes. Depending on your MacBook model, MrFix can offer different battery options.

Our Premium battery is our recommended aftermarket option for supported models. We also offer a lower-cost Value Edition, while original/OEM options can be supplied for supported models where available.

We’ll explain the differences, the price, what’s included and whether your model uses a standalone battery or one integrated with the top case before you choose.
